I was trying to find a plugin that will allow me to view simple text *.txt files.

I tried FileExplorer and it works, but only sometimes.
(sometimes it displays the text and sometimes it doesn't)

It doesn't seem like that tough of a thing so I thought maybe you guys might have an idea.

Thanks

If you go to MP Configuration
    go to plugins
    enable MyPrograms if currently disabled
    rightclick MyPrograms and select Configuration
    Click Add as Child
    Select Application Launcher
    Enter a title
Select your txt file in the Application field.
Now you can select it in MP by going to the Plugins/Programs.

Also make sure that "Always on top" in general settings is NOT selected (I think...).

Actually, I was more interested in being able to read text files on the fly, without having to add them in configuration.

I like to download some radio shows (Coast to Coast) and they come as MP3's with text file description files.
I tried using a program to add the text file into the ID tags so they would show up in the Media Portal music player, but that was inefficient and cumbersome and didn't really work.

The Filemanager plugin will do what I want, but it doesn't work every time. Sometimes it shows the file and sometimes it doesn't.

Hmmm, I just had a thought. I wonder if there is an HTML viewer for Media Portal. That should render a Text file in a readable format...

Hmm, This sounds like a great idea to me too. I have lots of live music that is sorted by concert, each with their own txt file. It would be a great feature to be able to view that txt file directly while in the album folder...

Well, I tried the web plugin and was never able to get it to open a local file. I've still not found a solution here so maybe this could be a future feature.

Yes, I installed File Explorer, and it does the job. It will display a text file. But it sometimes does not work. Sometimes it will load a txt file and not display any of the text. Sometimes it formats it quite strange with extra paragraphs, making a short description file into a long thing with lots of open spaces. If it worked consistently I might look into fixing the font size (which is quite small and unreadable on a TV) but it's just too cumbersome and inconsistent.
