Hello Forum!

This is my fist post here and due to the complexity, I have no real idea where to post my question.
I decided to use the "Newcomer" board hoping, someone with more expierence reading here as well...

With the MS MediaCenter, my "original" MS Remote Control MCE works perfect. When watching TV, I can use the pause button, rewind and forward as well as record.
When navigate in menus, I can always use the back button to go a level back in the menu.
When watching recorded movies, I can also use the buttons to control the movie.

With the Media Portal it doesn't work.
I think, I have configured the usage of MCE Remote contol correctly in the configuration and I can use some of the buttons of the contol. For instance Volume+/- are working (and also showing a volume bar on the top right corner).

Is there a trick to make this working like in MediaCenter or is this a default limitiation?
I use a Pinnacle DualTV DVB-T card, which was shipped with a Pinnacle Remote Control. However this never worked for my computer with MediaCenter and therefore I've bought the MCE control. Could it be the case, that the system "hopes" to use the Pinnacle one, which is not there?

Many thanks in advance for you answers,

Merry Christmas,

Oliver

Some remotes emulate the Microsoft MCE remote RC6, how to find out if it's using the ehome driver, go to Device Manager, under usb controllers see if you have ehome infrared receiver (usbcir) shown.

If it does, then you need to right click on the above device and go to the details tab, select hardward id, should look something like this USB\VID_0471&PID_0815&REV_0000

Supply yours and it can be added to the mce driver support.

    Hi,

    thanks for the quick response...
As usual, it is not soo easy...

There are a couple of entries in the USB-Controller section as well as in the Input Devices area. I can see them shown up, when I connect/disconnect the USB IR reciever. However, USB-Controller entries for "USB-Verbundgerät" (sorry, german language pack on vista) are linked to "usbccgp.sys".
"USB\VID_1241&PID_E000" looks like the most accurate identifier.

However, I also see some entries in the "Input-Devices" section of the device manager...
This is the model I use:
SPEED-LINK / Products / PC Accessories / Keyboards / Remote Control / Media Remote Control, MCE
    and...
I haven't installed any vendor drivers to make this working...
Is this helpful to help me?

It could well be a keyboard emulation of the mce remote, in that case select HID for your remote and deselect mce, see if that works.

    You made the point here!
It is HID based and by disabling MCE and enable GeneralHID, it works better.
Still not perfect, because the back button tries to send a backspace while the program uses ESC to go back in the menu...
I think there is already a thread on this inside the forum... I need to read a bit more...

Thank you very much for a great support!

    Aready downloaded it... :)
You know, I do IT professionally in a worldwide company... I sometimes play too much with the computers.... Sometimes I prefer to have a plug-and-work solution and not the typical rtfm-faq-forum solution as I was used to work with in the past on unix systems too many times... ;-)
That's why I declined the MP in the past and used MS MediaCenter - for simplicity....

However, I'm still impressed on the quality of MP and will try to switch vom MediaCenter to MP now, because I might have to move the licenses for Ultimate to some other systems.
Additionally, MediaCenter could not record to network drives and I've just bought a DS209+ as NAS... :)

Therefore - I'll try the IR Serversuite...

Thanks again for your beautiful support!
