Summary:

There is A LOT of mp operations without a visual feedback to inform the user what's happening...

Area:

MediaPortal's interface

Description:

Right now, if you try to open a picture and it takes some seconds, there is no message or progress bar to inform the user about the process. It happens the same when trying to view a video stream from Internet. I suggest to add functions in MP to give the user more information about what is happening when he select an operation that takes a bit of time. For example, if i open a video stream, it could be nice to have a dialog box with messages like: Contacting server, streaming percent, waiting for response, etc. If i rotate a picture, mp should give info about the progress... Also, there is bugs in some operations that shows a spinning hourglass, the user can not cancel the process and if he goes back to previous screen the spinning animation remains on screen...

Please, take in mind that the user interface is the MOST IMPORTANT thing in an app like this, all other functions in MP are just plugins (for watching TV, for reading news, etc). In my modest opinion mp dev team should focus in user interface enhacements, fx, animations etc. All other tasks should be considered plugins and mantained by the author of each plugin (this includes TV, etc)

just my two cents... regards, ;)

    Hi patricon,
I would settle for just the hourglass. I don't get anything at all, so I sometimes think the keypress on my remote didn't work, and press again. Of course, usually it did work, in whch case the second keypress gets stacked and applied to the next screen, often with annoying results. I am using the BlueTwo wide skin w/SVN. Is the hourglass only a feature of the Replicant skin, or is it broken in SVN?

Excellent suggestion! I'd also add in 'My Videos' something to show you're trying to start playing a video. Hi-def MKV's can take 5-10seconds to start on my HTPC, so a visual display would be nice to tell you you've hit the correct button!

Thanks for the great app! :)
