Why is vmr9 rendering brighter than the desktop, overlay etc? I have "calibrated" brightness and contrast to perfection, but when I use vmr9 (forced in MP for dvd's apparently...) black is grey... why is that? Can brightness for vmr9 be set separately somewhere?

Another vmr9 related question (I think):

After playing a dvd movie and then returning to the MP menus they are MUCH smoother (and brighter). I suppose vmr9 is still used, as the movie continues in the small window. Is there a setting to ALWAYS use vmr9? That would be sweet as the menus are really nice in vmr9, and the brightness could be properly set once and for all...

    Hi,

VMR9 settings can be changed in your graphics card settings. So which one do you have? Usually its either the Direct3D menu or a separate menu for video & TV calibration.

I have a Geforce 6200. I can't find any special settings for direct3d, the only colour settings are the ones for "desktop", "overlay" and "all". I'll look again, deeper... :)

So it's "normal" that vmr9 can have other settings than desktop etc?

    Hi,

    yes, its normal. :)

The settings in the latest nVidia Forceware should be something like "TV & Video" "Colour Calibration". It combines overlay and VMR9 settings. Try setting it to "default". This should already help.

Same problem here, ATI radeon x1900xt user, the strange thing is that this happens only with mediaportal! From the research I did, it seems that when vertical resolution is >= 720 for some reason the output goes to TV levels. Strangest thing is that even though FFDSHOW is set to RGB32 and high-quality conversion this happens ONLY in mediaportal, no problem with MPC, KMPLAYER etc.

I have asked about this issue before in another topic and was told it is a driver problem, well maybe it is however all other players I tried in VMR9 output PC levels when needed.

Please implement a fix for this because it is the only thing stopping a lot of ppl moving entirely to the otherwise wonderful mediaportal :)
