Hi

I have a HTPC running XP and mediaportal with sound output via onboard optical SPDIF.

Unfortunately since I use SPDIF I must adjust the volume on the receiver. This is sub optimal and I wish I could adjust the volume within mediaportal/the operating system.

I have setup FFDShow to decode DTS/AC3/ETC then apply a volume processer then re-encode to AC3 and output via SPDIF.

Audio stream --> Decode Audio --> Volume Processing --> Re-encode Audio --> SPDIF --> Receiver

This gives me volume control via the FFDShow configuration. Unfortunately the XP Master volume / WAV volume control has no effect on the volume.

Is there a way to link the FFDShow volume processing to the XP system master or wav volume?

Are there any scripts or apps that allow you to adjust the ffdshow volume filter based on changes with system master/wav volume?

Is anyone aware of any other audio decoders/re-encoders that will do what i want?

I know there is a volume tracker script that binds master volume to wav volume, but adjusting wav volume has no effect with 5.1 soundtracks.

I have exacly sam problem any help?

I didn't think you could control spdif volume on an AC3/DTS soundtrack...as far as I'm aware you can only do it for the pro logic/stereo pcm tracks?

And why doesn't your remote adjust your reciever volume? Seems like a lot of extra processing and stuff for no reason. The point of optical/digital coax out to a reciever is to pass everyting off to it and let it deal with it. My remotes volume button is locked to the reciever since it controls all audio for everything (xbox, ps3, computer, cable box, etc).

    Try this:

Mediaportal Configuration - General - Volume Settings - Control
Change from "Master Volume" to "Wave" or the contrary.
