WaitForTimeShiftFile - return scrambled, since card has no CAM (1 Viewer)

Hesitant, I grab the keyboard to report this problem. I searched wide and far, but either my luck at finding an answer or sufficient search skills are lacking.

Here goes. Intermittently (and of course always unwanted) MP will report that a channel can not be tuned to because it is encrypted.

This evening I completely uninstalled, cleansed the database, etc. etc. and then re-installed. After that I cleaned out the log directories, started TV server and client and created the log files you find attached to this message.

Luck (?) would have it that the problem surfaced again rather quickly....

The tv.log shows around 22:25:36 the following entries:

Code:
2010-08-31 22:25:36.402541 [(6)]: card: StartTimeShifting 3 C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal TV Server\timeshiftbuffer\live3-0.ts
2010-08-31 22:25:36.403542 [(6)]: card: CAM enabled : False
2010-08-31 22:25:36.404542 [(6)]: card: WaitForTimeShiftFile - return scrambled, since card has no CAM.

This is while tuning from an encrypted channel (SBS6) to another encrypted channel (Discovery Channel). At that time I started reading the MP forum again. Then, roughly 20 minutes later, I again select Discovery Channel from the epg and now the log shows:

Code:
2010-08-31 22:43:51.810195 [(20)]: card: StartTimeShifting 3 C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal TV Server\timeshiftbuffer\live3-0.ts
2010-08-31 22:43:51.810195 [(20)]: card: CAM enabled : False
2010-08-31 22:43:51.811195 [(20)]: subch:0 SetTimeShiftFileName:C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal TV Server\timeshiftbuffer\live3-0.ts
2010-08-31 22:43:51.811195 [(20)]: Set video / audio observer
2010-08-31 22:43:51.814195 [(20)]: subch:0 SetTimeShiftFileName fill in pids
2010-08-31 22:43:51.828196 [(20)]: subch:0-0 tswriter StartTimeshifting...
2010-08-31 22:43:51.831196 [(20)]: card: WaitForTimeShiftFile - waiting _eventAudio & _eventVideo

and everythings works fine again.

  1. MP client and server were not touched between the two tuning attempts;
  2. This behaviour is not specific to any encrypted channel. It will (or not) happen to any one of them;
  3. After complaining about the scrambled channel, I can use Videolan to watch the timeshift bufferfile transport stream just fine, no problem, no encryption;

Any pointers to would be welcome. I'm familiar with windbg (long, long, long ago in another life I was part of the BTWinCap driver development for the then popular TV cards based on the Bt8x8/Bt8x9 - but who remembers those nowadays :D), but would rather not go that route right now. Especially since windbg and managed code, well, barely get along together ;).

I really would appreciate any hints, tips, or even 'yeah I have that too' comments.

Regards,
Fred

Ok here it goes:

1. Is the channel encrypted on the network? (I assume yes because you have Ziggo)
2. You are using MDAPI to decrypt. I know this is the only solution to get the anysee sort of working but this is NOT supported by the team.
3. I see you are using an anysee, these cards are known to have problems. I have one too but i do not use it because it the CI is not supported in MP (and not able to code it because of the lacking / very bad SDK) and it was no where near stable.

My advise would be: Sell your anysee (perhaps to an MCE user where it does work) and buy a card which has a fully supported CI in MP.

Yeah, I was afraid it would amount to that :'(

You're absolutely right about the SDK. Good old VS 6.0, frightening threading issues and re-entrancy problems too. Sigh.

A real pity as these nifty little boxes provide a lot of functionality for their money.

It sure looks like a timing issue somewhere. Guess I'll just have to pick up the mdplugin source tree and debug the filter.

MCE isn't an option for me. I may give GBPVR a try, but prefer MP.

Thanks Rik!
