Watching AVIs and DVDs, what player does Media Portal use? (1 Viewer)

Right now, when I go into my MovingPictures menu and select a movie .avi, it pops open the window in full screen and the movie runs away nicely. I was wondering what player its using. Does MediaPortal have its own player and if not, what player is it using?

I tired to run a DVD earlier but it crashed. Does MediaPortal use its own DVD player or my system default?

Thanks,

mediaportal by default uses internal player for .avi and dvds
you can set it up in options to use an external player eg. MPC-HC
(under MP Config -> Video -> External player)
moving pictures can do either too
for hddvd and blurays i understand you need external app.

So for 1080p .avi's or any .avi's for that matter, the internal player works fine correct? (ie. the bigger the resolution the better, running at 24 fps ?)

So I would just need something like Power DVD to watch my Netflix Blu Rays?

I have PowerDVD so I will probably just use an external player, but I wonder how that is going to work, if it will be maximized everytime, if I wont lose access to my windows on display #1 (re: my other post). Maybe its just better to get a MediaPortal codec pack and have them handle the movie.

How does MediaPortals players compare to PowerDVD for example? Any benchmarking tests I can take a look at?

mediaportal can be setup to use the pdvd codec if you like. i find saf codec pack which uses mpc-videocodec to be better than pdvd, because it plays a larger range of videos. both are good. the main difference is that mediaportal player is integrated and offers more features eg. if you click stop you can replay the movie from where you stoped etc. if you use external player mediaportal will hide, pdvd will be maxmised, then when video playback stops mediaportal will automatically jump back into focus. i understand you will need to use pdvd for bluray, but i recommend you try to use MP internal player for playing all other video
