Weird luminance near letterbox bars (1 Viewer)

Here's the problem, and it is weird: on SOME video files, I get a few extra pixels of luminance around the edges of the vodeo area. That is, on a completely dark scene, you can see where the video area ends and the letterbox bars begin cause it's a glowing line. I somehow made it 'go away' (not sure how) but now it's back again. I'm using coreAVC for my h264 content, but it showed up in a 1080P wmv video also. I have all my inputs / outputs set to 16-235 levels, it happens wether I let ffdshow handle the conversion of YV12 -> RGB or not. I'm COMPLETELY stumped. Does anyone have any experiences with this sort of thing? I'm using VMR9 exlusive mode w/ non-square pixel rendering (I've tried different combos and nothing seems to change it). If someone wants a pic I can take one and post it. It is annnoooyyyiiinggggg
