Suprisingly, it seems like Media Portal has a much, MUCH bigger community than Media Center (MCE2005 and Vista MCE). I really enjoy OpenSource projects and absolutely loved XBMC (except for the fact that it didn't support HD content).

Anyways, I'm setting up a simple HTPC server for video playback only. I really wish that I could use my Dish Network Vip622 DVR on my HTPC but apparantly it's really not possible. Therefore, I will only be playing back videos (mostly HD) with the computer.

What are the advantages to Media Portal over Vista MCE (and MCE2005)?

Also, does Media Portal have any video RSS readers? For example, GameSpot has video reviews published to an RSS feed that I would like to watch...

    Thanks for your help!

  • About The Project

The vision of the MediaPortal project is to create a free open source media centre application, which supports all advanced media centre functions, and is accessible to all Windows users.

In reaching this goal we are working every day to make sure our software is one of the best.

  • Support MediaPortal!

The team works very hard to make sure the community is running the best HTPC-software. We give away MediaPortal for free but hosting and software is not for us.

Care to support our work with a few bucks? We'd really appreciate it!
