What capture card and tuner to use in US (1 Viewer)

I am looking to possibly build an HTPC and subscribing to satelite in the US. I have been using XBMC for years and am looking at experimenting with Mediaportal for tv capture. I would like to know what combination of tv capture cards and DVB-S or DVB-S2 cards have been successful with various satelite providers in the US.

I guess my first comment would be that a capture setup is very different to a DVB-S/S2 setup. I think you kinda need to decide which option you want to choose there. From an MP perspective we don't support any "pure" capture cards except the Hauppauge HD-PVR and Colossus. We do support capture inputs on tuner cards though. A capture setup can be quite tricky - here is a tutorial that should at least give you an idea of what is involved. On the other hand I think DVB-S setups for US providers can also be tricky. I might be wrong but I think some providers use modulation schemes that aren't supported by most DVB-S tuners. I think quite a few people use Genpix tuners for that reason. The tricky thing with that kind of setup is organising how you're going to decrypt the channels.
