I'm a bit stuck on this. I have a fully assembled HTPC, but one BIG function of it was to be a dvr to replace our video tapes. The problem is the the previous tuner I purchased, a MyGica U6012B, was defective and the drivers did not play nice with Windows 7 64-bit, I am in need of a new capture card. This is where I hope any of you can help me.

I need the capture card to be able to capture video and audio from either a composite or component input, preferrably composite.

I need the drivers for the capture card to play nice with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and work with mediaportal.

I need the capture card to be under $50.

System specs SHOULD be able to be found on my profile, any recommendations would be wonderful. :D

    Hi willbill642

Do you need any particular flavour of connection - USB, PCI or PCIe?
Keep in mind that with the exception of the Hauppauge Colossus and HD-PVR MP doesn't actually support "pure" capture cards. Capture input support seems to have been an after-thought. With that in mind, you need to get a tuner with capture inputs.

I'd strongly recommend something with hardware encoding - in fact I would even go so far as to say that if it were me I would literally refuse to even consider non-hardware encoding options. Hardware encoding is more expensive up front but I think it is hard to put a value on the headaches you'll save yourself. If it didn't have problems with more than 4GB in a 64 bit system I would recommend a second hand Hauppauge PVR-150 without hesitation. Trying to find a similar option in your price range could be tough...

Either USB or PCIe, but if it's a PCIe, then it needs to be low profile. And thank you for your reply, mm

    Hi again

Well there aren't too many USB tuners with hardware encoding out there. The Hauppauge HVR-1950 is one, but that is well out of your price range. The HVR-1250 is getting closer but still out of your price range *and* it doesn't have hardware encoding. The 2200 has two analog inputs with hardware encoding but is at least double what you're willing to pay.

Unfortunately those prices are probably reasonably representative of what you'd expect from other manufacturers too. That puts me in a difficult position as I can't find anything that I would recommend to you at that price. :(
