hardware is in my case an Ipaq 5550. I will be programming a few buttons of my tv-remote with extra functions. Using Usbuirt and Girder

How is the range on that?

I use a "one for all" "Kameleon 6" with the code for the Topfield receiver (1206) since this gives me all the buttons I need. For reception I use a TSOP IR receiver I built into the HTPC that is queried by Winlirc. I use the winlirc plugin that "Jadz" kindly provided for sending commands to MP.

Range is about 10m and I can point to the ceiling etc. and the reflection is still sufficient to control teh HTPC. The kameleon has two strong IR Diodes built in.

In order to switch on the PC with this remote I made a small circuit that can receive an RECS80 code I programmed into the Kameleons "Power" button. the circuit effectively "pushes" the power button on the PC so it works regardless of the hardware.

This circuit also provides a toggle switching voltgage for my CRT projector to select 16:9/4:3. This is another RECS80 code programmed into the Kameleons "16:9" button.

If anybody out there has "soldering skills" I would be happy to provide the details of my circuit.

Cheers

Also when I wake up the HTPC MP closes or crashes (not sure which) as per the example in...

Ok, so perhaps a solution, but not the "right" solution. On the client, within media portal configuration, under TV settings, advanced options, I switched to UNC paths instead of the default RSS, and it's working very well. Sure I had to figure out the paths, but no big deal. Maybe helpful for someone in the future. Thanks for the...
