This thing is HARD to set up.

I've spent a good part of the weekend fighting with it. Reinstalled sql, and reinstalled MP and TVServer.

It sees my HDHomeRun and it finds about 20+ channels (out of about 130 channels the HDHomeRun setup finds:-( But I am not even worried about this now, I just want to get the few channels it found working.)

When tuned in, I get black screen, but can hear the sound. I've changed the the codecs, from the default MPA to Ciberlink. Nothing works.

I've been able to get picture to show up with MyTV 0.2, but have audio stream problems there.

Love MP, really want to stick with it, but the TV part really makes it tough.

And I am not even talking about getting the guide to work, which I've never been able to do.

Attached are my logs.

Anyone with any ideas?

Thanks.

Does this happen in MediaPortal? If so try going into TVServer>TV Channel and selecting a channel and clicking preview.
Also have you tried using VLC to test the stream coming out of TVServer:
    http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/TV-Engine_0.3/troubleshooting-streamtest

If either of these work then you can be sure that TVServer basically functioning correctly. From there it is most likely to be a some kind of codec problem on your PC that is effecting MediaPortal.

By the sounds of it you're almost there. Stick with it, it'll be worth it :D

    Thanks, mcraenz.

Following your advice, I tried Preview. Got the black screen. Then I tried feeding the stream to VLC and got a picture!

So, I started flipping through codecs. Remembered reading something about DScaler being the only codec that correctly for Audio streams, so I select it for Video, and it worked:) Mot as good of a pic as some of the other codecs, but at least there is a picture. Wonder why DScaler is the ONLY codec that works?

Now that I got this solved, how do I get the other issues I have resolved?

    1. TV Server found only very few of he available channels. Is there a way to manually or otherwise add the rest of the channels I know I can get, such as CNN?

2 What is a decent working guide to use in North America? I've tried a few options I found while browsing, but none seem to work for me. Anyone know if zap2it still works?

Something odd with your system. I find that MPV, NVIDIA and others work I prefer NVIDIA.

As for the channels scanning in, What Service are you using? DVB-S, DVB-T etc? You might be best to look around the forums, or talk to some other North American users. I'm in New Zealand (We only get about 10 channels total!)

Don't know. I basically use K-Lite and when reinstalling MP I installed the DScaler and MPV codecs, even though I'd rather I didn't have. It's weird, since I never had problems with Vista MCE, and even MyTV 0.2 works fine for video (with either ffdshow or Cyberlink7.x), but not TVServer 0.3. Anyway, I am happy I got video now:) Thanks again.

As for what I use, just basic Times Warner cable now. I canceled my Dish Network after I realized I never watched anything on it anymore. If I can get CNN in, I'll be happy.

If anyone else has suggestions for importing channels not found by TVServer 0.3 and for getting the guide working in the USA, please chime in.

This might sound like a scripted condescending auto-reply, but codec packs are usually the spawn of satan. Or at least that is what I've found them to be (along wtih several other users).

Make sure you don't have EVR selected in the Mediaportal config. This can cause the problem you describe
