When starting mediaportal I get a system process called "system" and this runs at between 80% to 99% of the processor, most of the time. What is this?

It is causing my TV to stop start. This doesn't happen in media canter TV so the card/aerial are fine. Do you have any suggestions.

Not that it helps, but the process "System" is there all the time, not related to MediaPortal. It's part of your XP.

no this isn't the system idle process but something called just "system" and it runs so much that it kills my media portal on my htpc but on my home computer its fine.

Maybe I'll try a rebuild tonight.

In that case, it's normal. It's the idle time, when the processor is doing nothing.
Nope, that's wrong. The "System" process raises CPU usage e.g. when network traffic is done. That's not an "idle" process... that one is called "Leerlaufprozess" in a german XP.

Something with his system, may it be network or whatever, jumps to near 100% for him. That's not idling time. That's why it blocks his MP.

Hint: Try removing all 3rd party plugins (for bad coded plugins disabling is not enough) and try a clean MediaPortal.xml (move away your current one). Also move away your database files.

tried a full format and full install with no extra plugins and get the same results.

Also tried another Gf card, TV capture card and still getting the sames. 99% lock up on system process any ideas?

BTW this only happens with mediaportal, MCE 2005 and winTV are ok.

I've seen MP do this quite a few times, but not "system" that is weird.
Although it may be running MP that triggers it, sounds like something outside of MP that is causing cpu use to go through the roof.
Anything you may have updated recently, drivers, software etc.

nothing. Funny things is on my normal every day PC everything is fine.

It's a completly fresh install. New motherboard, ram, gf card tv card. All the lastest drivers. The only thing left is to update the bios but it doesn't have a floppy drive so I'm leaving that for a bit.
