Hi all,

I have a Windows Vista PC and would like to buy a new Video card to use it as a media Center PC. The PC than connects to a HD LCD TV which I use as a monitor

As I feed the PC with a Sky+ box and the normal roof antenna, the following options should be possible

Ideally DVI or HDMI sockets to see on the TV rahter than monitor
Able to record TV Programs (Recording the is not very important, but picture should be shown fluently)
not too expensive (Can be a low or medium end card)

Would be great to know if you have a MP supported card, which can do this functions :)

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Polly_31,

I'm using NVidia 6200 GT video (graphic) card with 512MB RAM and HDCP (very important if you want to use your MP PC as Blue-ray player in the future).
My card is passive so I don't generate any noise. This card isn't the newest one but I can wath Full HD TV and also Blue-ray movies without problems.
You can also use ATI graphic card eg. ATI Radeon 4550 Passive. This card has also HDMI adapter so you can connect this card directly with your TV.
Don't forget to use everytime the newest driver.

Great card

Hiya!

Thanks for the post!!

The card looks nice, but just a bit wondering how you get the TV signal in this card?

I understand the output to the LCD via DVI, but can you use the SVideo for Video in, eg if the signal comes from a Sky+ box?

Many Thanks,

Chris

Hi,
What port(s) have you got on your Sky+box?
Could you send me more detail about this box eg. picture?
If the output is DVT-T (Digital) you need one DVB-T TV card on your MP PC eg. Hauppauge WinTV Nova-T PCI.
You can use also the Hauppauge remote with MP.
I don't prefer to use SVideo port because the quality isn't so good like using DVI/HDMI.

I think there is some confusion here, a Video Card usually means graphics, so the answers above are giving you ideas for Graphics cards, not TVCards.

This may help relating to Sky, Otherwise a normal hardware encoding analogue card like the PVR150\PVR500 would be recommended to connect to a existing settop box.

It's a bit old, but i think it currently stands for sky subscribers.
