which graphics card (1 Viewer)

Currantly i have a geforce MX 440 64mb (no one bring up directx 9 graphics is needed for media portal) and it works perfectly and ive never had a problem with it.

I recently got a ati 9200se with 128mb of ram from a frind

Im more of an nvidia person so i dont really understand ati cards but i think it would be about the same as a fx5200.


Will i see any major preformance boosts from this card?

The 9200se is a DX8 card with DX9 support mostly through software.
You might see a few improvements because of that but as an se version it's about the slowest DX9 support you'll find.
You would need the latest drivers btw.

again im not a ati person but SE normally means second edition and is notmaly better (eg windows 98se)where as LE means light edition and is normaaly worse(eg fx5700le). are you sure that because of its a SE version it's about the slowest DX9 support Ill find

Yep. As far as ATI SE goes, these are the "quantity over quality" cards.

I own a 9600 SE card as well. This particular card features 256MB RAM which was very rare at that time and unheard of in the 9600SE' pricerange. Those 256MB are considerably slower than the 128MB featured on the normal 9500/9600 versions thou, which resulted in slower performance back then.

Those 256MB do come in handy with the high texture load in todays games but of course the 9600SE doesn't sport all those new nifty features like SM 3.0, HDR et cetera and is way too slow these days gaming anyway.

Makes a good HTPC card thou with passive cooling
