I have used MCE remotes under XP and Vista which have worked perfectly, then I bought 2 more Speedlink SL6399 and they require the keyboard plugin which works 99% ok but more hassle. I need to buy more and want something that works with vista out of the box like the MCE ones with the same look and feel as my 4 year old uses it along with my wife.

What are you guys using along the microsoft remote line as you cannot get these anymore. Can I buy a VMC remote and it it the same as the MCE one.

What I want is a remote that is commonly available from Microsoft that I can simply tick the box in MP config and it will work 100%.

I looked at the recomended hardware and its all about TV cards, I just do not want to waste anymore money.:)

Ha! Got that speedlink myself. Started giving me a headache.
I got myself a Vista reciever (eHome 2006) which I use w/Win7. This would not work with XP.
My old MCE remote did however work without any problems with the new receiver, so I guess protocols (SMK) are same.

I know i'm not answering your Q, but the info might hopefully be of help.
