I am looking at

Hauppauge wintv 500 mce

and

NVidia Dual Tuner

both are similar in price but I want to make sure that I have the Best picture and Compatablility.

This project is brand new to me and I am elated to find this software.

what are the differences in the various tuner cards? For instance if I want to run a composite out or something like that for my standard tv and stereo what should I look for?

well there are a lot of factors but what you are asking is based on an output question. The TV card will only handle input.

You will need a Video card with Composite output or Svideo output to connect to your tv or reciever.

As far as sound goes you will need an adapter to go from your sound card output to the input of your tv or reciever usually around 4 bucks from Radio Shack.

As far as TV cards go you should get one that has Hardware Encoding built-in. It will reduce the load your system will be under to provide a good picture.

Here is a link to the current list of supported Hardware Encoding cards found on the main site.
