I currently own a NVidia 8600GT video card (ASUS) and have an pretty old plasma display (42'' with a resolution of 1024x768).

I'm currently experiencing stuttering when playing back 1080p video's especially when the camera is panning.

I'm planning to buy a new full HD plasma display (50'') and like a smooth playback with no stuttering when there is a full camera pan.

Do I have to buy a new video card? And if so, which one would be great :D

Hi Hjbaard,
I use NVidia 8600GT (512MB DDR RAM) with LCD TV 42" and Full HD.
I haven't any problems wiht stuttering etc.
I guess you don't need any newer/faster VGA card.

What type of 1080p media are you playing? BluRay? MKV?

BluRay should be using hardware acceleration and should be fine (depending on CPU type). MKV's may not, depending on codecs.

Try using SAF (Stand-Alone Filters for MediaPortal) which may enable acceleration for MKV's also.

Also, what CPU do you have? If you're using a software codec with a slow CPU this may be your problem.

I tried with a mpg (for ps3). And use the PowerDVD codecs.
My CPU is an AMD Athlon64 X2 5000+

I will try the SAF filters and see if this makes any difference.
But if I understand you both correctly then the problem is not my video card.

You will not get hardware acceleration working as it should, you are resizing the video to fit your screen resolution which does not match the video resolution closely enough, thats why the stuttering.

When you go proper HD, hopefully this will go away.
