I used to have the same solution, but with HDMI the sound is sent as individual channels as PCM (which is then just amplifed and sent to the speakers). I can get the amp to change upmix it, but it will need the amp to be on different settings for music/TV/movies/bluerays, so it is easier just to get the mixing right before it leaves the PC and leave the Amp on the one default setting.

One advantage of Win 7 Professional is that with a minor hack, you can Remote Desktop login to it from another computer at the same time as Mediaportal is running. This means you can perform maintenance, burn discs, DB editing, etc. on the MP box remotely without disturbing anyone using Mediaportal.
FYI. With a wife and 4 kids, I don't get much down time on the MP box to do things, so a 2nd concurrent account is very handy.

I know some people will "get on their high horse" and say this is illegal but I have paid for many versions of Windows 7 (as I have many computers), so I don't actually care about the right or wrong morals in this regard. If I was running Linux and MythTV, I could do this anyway, so MS should be happy I have paid them a good sum of money for Windows 7.

    Cheers,
