    Hi,

I have been using a single seat setup up to now and wanted to play around with MP and WHS.
Found an old motherboard and CPU and installed it for testing...
The system doesn't work very well because it is probably hopelessly under spec as expected.
The motherboard takes up to 2GB ram and I wonder if I should upgrade that or am I better off upgrading the motherbaord and CPU in the long run??
I would want to serve 2 to 3 clients later...

These are the components I have at the moment:
    AMD Sempron 3100+ / 1.8 GHz
    512 MB Ram
    MB - Elite 755 A2

Anybody with some experience and maybe motherboard suggestion would be much appreciated (would want 2 PCI tuner cards with room for expansion).

    Thanks

    Forget this Hardware for WHS

Minimum you should calculate 2GB RAM for the OS. Better are 4GB even if the OS only supports 3GB.
If you only are planning to use the WHS for a Streaming-Sever a small Dual-Core CPU should be O.K.
If you wnat to do other task by a perfomant CPU. I think small i3 is strong enough.

    Thanks for the quick reply!

Mainly I would use the WHS for storing documents and pictures and also for MP...
I am not quite sure what you mean by Streaming only or other taks? I am new to WHS, maybe you could explain a bit more...

I'd like also to keep the power consumption low and the expense for new hardware... of course as always, I want it all for nothing :)

    Hi,

I am running MePo on my WHS for testing multiseat at the moment.
So far I am fine with my Atom 330 Asrock board and 1GB of RAM. One DVB-S card running with eins Festival HD fine....
Using the WHS for docs, music and pics, but also have hmailserver running.
No performance probsfor the time being

    regards

I have almost the same hardware for my WHS (Sempron 3000+, 1gb ram) and it runs absolutely fine. 512mb is a little on the low side I would think, see if you can find another 512mb stick around. Otherwise it should be fine even with 512mb, DB perf might be a bit lower though.

But you almost certainly don't need a better cpu. And I don't know why anyone would say you need a minimum of 2gb, better 4gb. It's a fileserver......

thats interesting, I have almost resigned to upgrading the MB..
I noticed that it seems to work but the tvservice jumps up to 75% cpu and response to the client will get flaky - and thats only with one connected..
unless my problem is somewhere else...
Not sure how much improvement another 500MB ram will do but maybe it's worth a try.

    Hi,

checked my load on the WHS, with one channel recording and a 2nd streaming to one client, tvservice process is at ~3% processor load and %idle" process it at ~80, with demigrator service taking ~15%.
So no proessor issues at all....

    regards
