I am making a pictoral site on how I build them in case anyone here is also interested.</p><p></p><p>I was just hoping that one day MP might go on my frames since while Meedio works fast and is pretty nice, it's not open source and it's configuration is setup kinda lame.</p><p></p><p>My setups:</p><p></p><p><strong>Workstation: 1 years old now, not the fastest computer, but definately not the worst setup either. about $1600 </strong></p><p>Antec P160 Performance One case - very quiet all aluminum.</p><p>Antec 480 TruePower Power Supply, also speed controls the case fans</p><p>Intel 3.0 HT CPU</p><p>Gigabyte 8KNXP motherboard - Dual Bios, Dual Power supply</p><p>1 Gig DDR3200 ram setup as Two sticks of 512 in dual channel mode.</p><p>Nvidia GeForce FX 5900 SE 128Meg video card</p><p>Sound Blaster Audigy 2</p><p>8x DVD+-R/W drive</p><p>40x CDRW drive</p><p>200 Gig drive C/D partitions</p><p>160 Gig Drive E/F partitions</p><p>120 Gig external Firewire/USB drive (on Firewire)</p><p>21" CRT - since I can't afford a 20+ inch LCD right now.</p><p>Setup right next to 19" CRT TV which I use to reference my video editing on to test gamma, cropping, to see how video DVD edits will look on a standard TV set since it differs on a computer display. Mainly use Sony Vegas 5 with the playpack output going to Firewire and TV out.</p><p></p><p>I use my desktop for everything and as my central media server, wired network to wireless 54g router.</p><p></p><p><strong>PVR box: 2 weeks old and ultra cheap $332 </strong></p><p>Fry's special on sale</p><p>GQ model Q3111 for $180 which includes:</p><p>- AMD Athlon 2000+ CPU</p><p>- Nice little black tower case, 2 ext 5.25" bays, 2 ext 3.5" bays, 1 or 2 int 3.5" bay(s), 250W powersupply plenty for everthing I would be using.</p><p>- ECS 741GX-M motherboard, 3 PCI slots, 1 CNR slot with 56k modem (not using), 8X AGP slot, 333 DDR bus, UDMA133 IDE bus, onboard Video (not using, no TV out), onboard 6.1 sound (using via Digital Coax to 6.1 reciever for now since my 2 optical inputs are in use), 2 DDR slots, 2 gig max, using 512M for now. First eMachines product ever owned, works great and never broken down.</p><p>- AMD 2400, 512M DDR, ATI video, 15.4 widescreen, CDRW/DVD, 54g wireless, 40gig HDD, firewire, Svideo out, dual display ability, 3-USB 2.0, super thin, etc. It's a great laptop and the cheapest new laptop I have ever bought with all the features it has.</p><p></p><p><strong>Digital frame (can use any 16x20 standard frame) about $500 in parts total:</strong></p><p>- 500Mhz Compaq M700 armada, 12gig HDD, a very thin, quiet and very sturdy laptop.</p><p>- currently 192 Megs of ram (64M builtin, 128M added)</p><p>- 54g wireless PCMCIA card $20</p><p>- PS2 port spliter for PS2 keyboard/mouse $8</p><p>- Same LiteON IR keyboard with built in pointer $23</p><p>- tiny amplified 2" driver speakers with 1" tweeters, built into the frame $20</p><p>- 4 port USB hub, since laptop only has 1 USB port, USB 1.1 since it's so old.</p><p>Frame works great, sounds great, and has been a very attractive and commented piece in the home.</p><p></p><p>I am not made of money, but I also know when to spend my money in the right places. 500mhz if plenty for a digital picture frame to do Music, Divx Video, and Pictures all over the wireless network.
