Posted on wrong forum several weeks ago, without response, so thought I would repost...

I find this somewhat confusing...

GeneralRequirements - MediaPortal Manual Documentation

Operating System

Supported operating systems•Windows XP 32-bit Edition with at least service pack 3
•Windows Media Center Edition 2005 with service pack 3
•Windows Vista 32- and 64-bit with at least service pack 1 •Windows 7 32- and 64-bit
We strongly suggest to install always the latest available service pack for your platform

Unsupported operating systemsPlease note that the following operating systems are not officially supported. However, you will be able to run MediaPortal on some of them.
Use the following overview as a guideline only. •The MediaPortal installer won't run on the following versions:
◦Windows 2000 and older editions ◦Windows XP 32-bit Edition before service pack 3
◦Windows XP 64-bit Edition ◦Windows Vista before service pack 1
•The MediaPortal installer will issue a warning, but will allow you to install on:
◦Windows 7 Beta (warning will be removed when it goes RTM) ◦Windows Server 2003 and 2008 (Microsoft does not release essential hotfixes for using TV cards) ◦Windows XP and Vista with beta/release candidate service packs Please, do not submit bug reports when running an unsupported operating system! You will only burden the developers, and cause unnecessary frustration for both yourself and the MediaPortal developers.

Clearly suggesting Windows 7 32 & 64 IS supported, only windows 7 Beta is unsupported....

MediaPortal and Windows 7
Written by infinityloop, on 17-06-2009

Since a few months everyone seems quite eager to test Windows 7.
Many of you also run MediaPortal 1.0.2 on it.

Now testing is always a good thing, but right now i would like to ask you to not create any support nor bugreport threads when running MediaPortal on W7.

Mediaportal 1.0.2 does not support Windows 7 at all.

The reason is that we know that MediaPortal 1.0.2 has quite some major and minor problems on Windows 7 RC1, especially if you have UAC turned on.

We will fix the most issues in the 1.1.0 ALPHA release, but there is still a lot of work to be done (by Microsoft and us) until you can call the combination of Windows 7 and MediaPortal stable and ready for a productive system.

So if you plan to switch your HTPC to W7 RC1 + MediaPortal, then you should better reconsider this decision.

I know this rattles on about RC1.. but some clarification would be good, both these pieces of information seem to contradict each other...

Are there ANY issues with MP and W7 32 0r 64 with either the app, or any plugins????

Im at a crossroads between spending time building a W7 htpc, or going down the cross platforum, OS free, XBMC route...

Thanks

It depends on the MediaPortal version.

Version 1.0.2 and earlier is not supported on Win7 by the team. Some members have reported success but certain components are not compatible.

Version 1.1.0beta1 and later is supported on Win7. Your first quote is from a wiki page that is constantly updated to reflect the current state. That is currently applicable to version 1.1.0 beta1 and/or latest SVN version.

Works fine with me, but I use Mp with out tv channels. Only difficulties were in chancing Vista to Windows 7x64 with remote but quite easily solved out. I can definitely recommend MP with Windows 7x64 for every one.

Been using Win7 for 6 months with MovingPictures and TV, not seen a problem yet that cannot be easily overcome.
