Does mediaportal work under Windows 7? I tried the other day and after clicking on TV Server setup I wasn't asked for a database password, and the software was unable to detect both my Hauppauge TV cards, which Windows Media Centre and the hauppauge software (TV6) I had installed were both capable of doing.
Should i try installing it under Windows XP compatibility or something?
I realise that all of the above in not very scientific, it's all from memory, I also haven't given a clue about my setup, but i'm just trying to establish whether it's even worth trying to get it work if it's an impossibility.
Thanks in anticipation...

All my systems are W7. The TV Server is installed on W7 x64, installed and set up without any problems (using a Hauppauge Nova-T 500). The client is installed on W7 x86 and again, no problems at all.

Hi, and welcome to the forum :)

MP is Win7 comp. I recommend that you give 1.1 a go. RC3 will hoefully be out soon.

Could you please porvide some details about the TV-card. In general, all Hauppauge DVB-devices and analogue w/hardware encoding should work. Hybirdcards might be a bit more difficult and software encoding analogue cards mostly a real PITA :D.

There is even unofficial support for the HD-PVR.

    Hi guys, ok here we go;
    I've got 2 TV card: Hauppauge PVR-350 and a Nova-500.
The 350 is a card whose analogue part no longer functions, as my area has just gone digital.
But I do like to use the AV-in section since this allows me to record from the cable box.

    My O/S is Windows 7, 32-bit.

I previously had mediaportal working in my old Windows XP setup, so I know that when it works it would be my chosen method to watch or record.

    Hi.
PVR-350 is a hardware encoding analogue card very similar to 150, and should work "out of the box". The Nova 500 is a DVB-T w/BDA-drivers,and also should work "out of the box" (both ofc provided that drivers are installed).

What MP version did you install? Could you upload some logs?

Ok, I'll try installing again, and see what happens.
This time I'll kep a close eye on things.
Any idea where I can get the logs from, once the anticipated 'non-event' takes place?
    Thanks again

Ok- it all worked, more or less, "in the end".
I ran the install (RC2) as Administrator. The MS SQL Express, complained about some mismatch, the install stopped immediately. I uninstalled Mediaportal and the MS SQL Express bit. And restarted the computer.
I then ran the full install again, same thing happened again.
I went to Uninstall for the MS SQL Express, but ran 'repair', God knows why.
Then I ran the Install once again, this time, the setup assumed SQL was installed.
Next I ran the TV server configuration- no password were asked for, but both cards were detected.
I did a channel scan, and some other paths for recording etc.
It took Mediaportal about 10 to 20 minutes once started to begin to find the EPG data, but it did.
I left it on for the rest of the evening during the election- apperad to work.
NO idea why it worked, let alone after the new hiccups I'd never seen before.
I can't get many channels, but i'll post a separate thing about that.
