Hi,

My hard drive was not anymore recognized at morning, seems like the seagate firmware problem.
I cannot wait for it to be fixed, so I am going to get new HD.

I was planning to get Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB. Other choises were Samsung Spinpoint F1 1TB and Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.B.
You can give your comment about that too if you wish :)
My computer is used for various tasks, gaming, video editing, mediaportal..

The main question anyway is, I have access to Windows 7 RTM, should I install it. Or maybe I ask, why I should not install it?
Since I would like to do it .. :)

Does mediaportal work with it?

My hardware;
Hauppauge Nova 500 (Dual tuner DVB-T)
Microsoft remote
Gefore 8800
Logitech DiNovo
Some logitech wireless mouse

.. thats it I suppose.:D

    Re W7 and MP

    As I undertsand it, 1.0.2 is not great in windows 7 and there are a number of bugs being ironed out in the 1.1 release alpha. The 1.1 RC is slated for release at the end of this month, and that will be the next step in W7 compatibility. Seems that there are mixed reports in the Forum about how well 1.0.2 works with W7. Some people seem to have gotten on OK with it. You would really need to do some reading on each of the respective releases particularly in regard to your own hardware to see whether its a good fit for your HTPC. If you're looking at installing over the next couple of weeks, the latest SVN would probably be the way to go.

    RE W7

    On my Desktop I had a stab at the Beta release and then the RC. Now Im using the latest build version and thats pretty good. I have to say Im very pleased with it in all respects. I can highly recommend it in terms of desktop computing. Cant speak to gaming with it as I only ever play Scrabble and Desktop Tower Defense (which I think would be stretching the definition of the term 'gaming' a bit).

    Anyway thats my 5c worth. Good luck with it :) :)

    Thanks for sharing your experiences.

    So should I first install 1.0.2 and then get latest SVN and install it?

    Should I get svn version from here;

    Is there somewhere discussion about MP and W7? I could not find any. I remember seeing
    a comment about how to install MP to W7, but could not find it anymore.

    And I would like to also understand what are the major issues with MP & W7, or is it just
    hw related, either it works or not?

    I think what Im saying is that you might want to do some reading before installing anything, so that you can familiarise yourself with the pros and cons of either 1.0.2, or, the SVN, and W7. You might also want to have a look at the "to do" list for the RC to see whats being ironed out - depending on how much work there is to do and on the nature of the issues, that may be the ideal prospect if you really want to go the W7 route. Hard to say though because it depends on your setup - you'll see this from the search results.

    There is actually quite a bit of discussion. A forum Title Search for "windows 7" (with the quotes) should get you started. Once you're clear about what the pitfalls are, you'll be in a better position to decide.

    For what its worth, theres an upgrade path from Vista to W7. A more straightforward option might be to just do a vista install with 1.0.2 (which is fine in Vista) then upgrade the OS to W7 later on when MP has more mature W7 support.

    Up to you....
