I recently upgraded to Windows 7 and did a clean install of MediaPortal.
Other than MediaPortal I only have the basics installed (ffdshow, moving pictures, tvseries)

I have been experiencing random freezes from which I cannot ctrl+alt+delete out of. The freezes occur when starting or stopping TV/Video/OnlineVideos - anything with Video.

It happens at random. But quite often.

I managed to reproduce it using the debug logger (blue-3 no plugins). But didn't manage to catch logs. THe logs provided are from normal use with StreamedMP + plugins. However the same issue occurs with no plugins.

I thought it was IFC to start, but I disabled it and it still happened. I am just using the Microsoft DTV codecs, so dont think its those.

I believe that the dynamic refresh rate changer causes the problem, as since turning it off I have not had the problem again.
UPDTE: It just happened again with dynamic refresh rate changer off.. but the logs are not set to debug :( will set them to debug and keep testing.

    UPDATE 2 - LOGS!
Ok so turns out I had luckily left debugging on! So here are my logs.
Finished a film, pressed 'stop', then it froze. Its an odd freeze where iPiMP works, an LogMeIn logs in etc, however as soon as I press ctrl+alt+del it crashes the whole machine. So only a hard reset works.

What do you mean with "it crashes the whole machine"?

Never had an Issue here where CTRL+ALT+DEL would not work.
Could you please test if you can reproduce that issue when running MP in windowed mode?

    Loging went wrong?

Re: Windows 7 Freezes on video stop or start (random)

Hi - thanks for the reply.

The ctrl alt del crash is very odd. What happens is MediaPortal freezes on stopping media. I can then then alt+tab around between apps, I can connect remotely via logmein, and I can access iPiMP and still browse the TV Guide etc. So the machine is working, its just MP thats frozen.
I press ctrl alt del, and then the whole machine crashes. I can no longer move the mouse, alt+tab, use iPiMP, connect via logmein.. very odd!

The URL after stopping media looks like the Online Videos URL.

I will do some more tests to see If i can reproduce it in windowed mode, and also if I can get it to reproduce in debug mode with plugins off.

So it ain't crash (which would be i.e. a BSOD), but it freezes. :)

Yes, what confuses me is the TvRecorded:OnPlayRecordingBackStopped Video before that URL, which would mean that you were watching a TV recording.

    That would be great!

Re: Windows 7 Freezes on video stop or start (random)

UPDATE: Running full screen with debug mode, no plugins/blue3

So as I got the same type of crash in debug mode, then i'm guessing its MediaPortal, or maybe codec or graphics setting? Crash happened right after starting a video (managed to hit seek at the same time it seems).

Now running in debug but in windowed mode to see if that makes a difference (will post logs if/when it crashes). Anything other scenarios for me to test?

In case it helps - other than Win 7, MS codecs and ATI 11.2 drivers, all I have that may be a bit 'different' is that im using SPDIF passthrough, and Ihave enabled wait for vertical sync in ati catalyst settings.

The crash has happened from a NAS box, and from OnlineVideos and Recorded TV, so I can rule out the NAS, or network issues I think

    Hi Revs,

can you try using MP without ffdshow SPDIF passthrough for some time?
Just turn off all passthrough boxes in ffdshow audio decoder configuration.
I have a strange feeeling that the latest ffdshow revisions are not so stable with a view to audio passthrough...
