I was about to try out Mediaportal on Windows 7 (Home Premium), but the installer seems keen to install things that aren't relevant for windows 7.

eg direct x 9c (I think windows 7 is direct x 11 so I presume this isn't needed)
windows medie player 11 (not sure why this is needed?)
MS visual C++ 2008 SP1 (is this included in windows 7)

Is there any way to op out of these - and what's the best way to set up for windows 7

I presume the MySQL and MS SQL express are needed to be installed?

You should update DX, use this link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en, then all of your DX 9, 10 and 11 will be up to date (Which they aren't).

I'm not sure about WMP11, but i think MP uses it's video engine to view videos.

If MP tells you to install C++ 2008 SP1, it's because it's needed, and not installed ;)

SQL is only needed if you're gonna watch LiveTV (afaik), and i would recommend MySQL (MS SQL Express isn't supported in 1.1.0.0) I also think you should download 1.1.0.0 beta instead of 1.0.2.0. BTW! 1.1.0.0 RC1 is not far away ;)
