I tried to install Media Portal on an XP SP3 computer but the installation stalled at the stage of checking for Windows Media Player 11. I do not have this program and never use my version 9 WMP or any other. I am unable to install WMP11 as my XP system is "unofficial" and therefore certain Windows components can not be installed. Does MediaPortal really need WMP and is there any method of circumventing this?

Yes. By a legal version of Windows ...!! Around 19 € you should have left for it.
