I have been having this problem with media player 10. If I play a video it will only play the audio and no video shows. I've checked everything I can think of but can't figure out why it is doing this. I didn't think it would be a problem since Mediaportal plays all the videos just fine but I tried using the trailers plugin today and it is doing the same thing so I guess I should figure out what is causing this. One thing I really don't understand is media portal runs off of media player right? But if I select a video from my hard drive to play media portal plays it without any problems. If I open media player and do the same thing it won't work. I have tried to get support for this from Microsoft but they want to charge like $35 for it. I love how all the companies that charge money for their products have the worst support. I was just wondering if anyone has ever had a similar problem.

You sure it's not something like ffdshow that's playing the file in MP.

If your copy of WMP is corrupt, it's a real bugger to solve, as normal uninstall\reinstall will not solve it.

Google WMP problems and see what comes up.

    Regards

    Hi,

could be a problem the video renderer. MP uses VMR9, WMP afaik uses overlay as default. Take a look into the options of WMP.
Extras->Options->Performance->(Acceleration)Enhanced(? not sure using german version) Use Videomixingrenderer....Uncheck Overlays

    HTH, Flip.

    Paranoid delusion,

No I don't actually have ffdshow I don't think. I have since found out that the same thing is happening with real player as well. I really don't know what it is that could be causing this problem. I will try that though.

PS; I have recently uninstalled and reinstalled itunes because itunes 7 was not working properly. Could uninstalling itunes have deleted something that I needed for wmp?

    FlipGer,

thanks a lot that fixed it. I actually had to go to options/performance/advanced to get there but I unchecked overlays like you said and it fixed it. Thanks a lot that's a big load off. Who needs microsofts support team?

By the way any ideas on how that could have gotten changed in the first place? I know I didn't touch that.

    Hi,

nice it helped. Where are my 35 Bucks? ;)

There could be quite some reasons for that problem. Not sure what real happend.
    - other program might have changed the setting
    - installed / uninstalled codec
    - installed new graphics card drivers
