Hi, i'm new here and to MP :)

I have just built my HTPC, and am having troubles with Mediaportal. I have installed Windows XP SP3 x86 on there which was supplied for free by my university because of its alliance with Microsoft, so its a legal copy.

However I wish to set Mediaportal to run at startup. When I do this though, my PC gets stuck on the Windows XP "Welcome screen", yet I can hit the windows button on the keyboard and I can still access the start menu. Media-portal seems to running behind the welcome screen/desktop if that makes any sense

Here is my HTPC specs just in case:

*REFURB* Hiper HMC-2K53A-H2 chassis with MSI MSI K9NGM2 motherboard
AMD Athlon x2 5600+ 2.9ghz
2GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800mhz
Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB 7200RPM drive
Sony Optiarc AD7673s dvd slot loading drive
Nvidia Geforce 6150 DX9 compatible integrated graphics
Hiper Media Center Remote
Hauppage PCTV Nanostick 290E DVB-T2 Freeview/Freeview HD tuner (on order)
Windows XP Professional SP3 32bit X86 (clean install as of yesterday) :)

Software installed:
Mediaportal v1.1 with Black Glass HD theme, standard plugins
AMD Cool 'n' Quiet drivers
Hiper Media Center VFD drivers
Hiper Media Center Remote drivers
Google Chrome
Wi-Fi drivers
Avast! 5 Free Edition antivirus
WMP11 for Windows XP
Net Framework 2
thats about it.....

Hope you can help me out or suggest another OS for me to use? :D

Hi! If MP is running, it should show that it is running. Does everything work OK if you start MP manually? How did you autostart MP (some set this to the registry as shell instead of explorer.exe). And please provide the MP logs, so that people can see what is going on.

Mediaportal is running in the background at startup, confirmed in Task manager under the processes tab it shows as 'mediaportal.exe' and also there is an instance of mediaportal on the task bar but when I click on it the start menu disappears.

To run it at startup, i just added the exe into the startup folder. When I run the exe manually (not at startup) all works fine

I'll upload a MP log (if I can find it) brb :)

EDIT: D'oh! Its always the simplest things that fixes problems like this!

All I had to do was go into the Mediaportal Configuration and in the general tab tick

    'keep Mediaportal always on top'
    and
    'Autostart Mediaportal at Windows Startup'

and that has now *hopefully* solved the problem. I've restarted the pc 4 times and so far all is working well :)

    Thanks for your help though
