Anyone more than me that uses the clients connected by wlan? I can´t get this working really, it just (sv. hackar)?? freezes frames(??)...

How much bandwidh do i need to stream one DVB-stream? With or without HDTV..
Anyone knows any good tips to get the WLAN run better? I got a Netgear something 108 Mbit router and a Netgear something 54mbit USB-dongle... the server is cable-connected.. The router and the wlan client is just about 4 meters from eachother with one thin wall between them..

It depends upon your TV provider, but the DVB channels that I watch are typically in the range 6Mbps to 10Mbps.

My experience with a 54Mbps wireless link is that the best throughput you can get (with WPA security enabled) is 13Mbps ... But, typically it is closer to 10Mbps - so, I have no idea why they claim it as 54Mbps, because you will never get even 1/4 of that rate with real data.

Yeah, I've got two 108 MBit routers - one Netgear, one AVM; both deliver ~ 2MB/sec throughput. This is enough for most channel but on high-quality/bandwith channels I need to touch the antenna (for some DB gain) to get smooth playback. I've also seen another router crashing instantly when receiving many UDP packets...

Must be talking about my DLINK DI-624. It is good for about 3 minutes of HDTV, then it dies. It sits there flashing all of it's lights over and over. I can however, stream analog TV with no problems.

Due to previous experience with WLAN I put a cat5 from my swtich to my bedroom client before I even started with TVServer. I use WLAN for all my other laptops, for general work and browsing but I didn't even want try streaming with WLAN. Since then I've installed MP on my main laptop(Wireless) and with direct line of sight to my access point and signal of "excellent" I find that MP streams pretty well. but that's not good enough; in my opinion steaming either works or dosn't! if it stops, starts and stutters then it''s just not usable. put in a cable (if you can) then just forget about network bandwidth! It just won't be another vaiable to worry about :)

I replaced my client USB dongle wlan adapter (DWL G132) with a pci wlan adapter (DWL G520) yesterday and I noticed a drastic improvement of performance on the client PC. Not only the MediaPortal Client/Server setup but also internet performance improved.

My conclusion is that I do NOT recommend any USB wlan adapters. So if possible stick to PCI.

PS. I only have experience with the models mentioned so other suppliers or models might perform better.

    Regards / Tomas
