Though i'm guessing that the shortest name isn't always the correct one.The other is to create a channel object for each display-name. They'll both have the same externalid (of course) so this won't matter at all for the mappings themselves.  The only thing that'll happen is that there will be a few more channels to go through when trying to find a match for each channel from the MP.
