Are there instructions on how to set this up anywhere? I visited the home site for it here: http://www.byz.org/~ethanz/mce-yac ,but was unable to find the interface to "add my modem".

Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

*Edit* That plugin is for MCE.... MP has all the functionality needed in the package, out of the box...

http://sunflowerhead.com/software/yac/ for the official YAC software
Then, through YAC go to configure Listeners, and insert the IP of your HTPC
After that, enable the YAC plugin on MP and away you go..

However, what do you mean by "Add my modem" ? To YAC or to MP?
Yac has an option that says "Select modem on startup", you also have to enable that in order to work... all these provided that your modem has caller id...

Thanks for the right link!

Here's what I did to enable Yac on Media Portal 2.04:

My modem is an AOpen FM56-PV. It's said to have caller ID capabilities. I enabled Yac via the plug-in menu in Media Portal setup. Unlike several other plug-ins, I did not find any means to configure it upon right-clicking on the enabled icon. I guess my question is what do I do next? - and believe me, I realize it's probably something simple I'm overlooking and I'm embarssed to ask; but I gotta have this feature. :)

The YAC caller ID plugin in MP functions as the YAC listener ONLY. You have to launch YAC itself (the part that actually communicates with your modem) from outside of MP (I do it from my XP startup folder). The first time you do this it should identify the modem(s) in your system and ask you to select one to use. Once you have launched YAC, you should see an icon in the XP system tray. Then, launch MP w/ the plugin enabled but with MP in non-full-screen mode. Right-click on the YAC icon in the system tray and select "send text message" - type something in and hit send and you should see it appear as a pop-up within MP. Once that works, try calling your modem on a number that has caller-id visible - if you don't get the pop-up w/in MP then something is wrong w/ the communication between YAC and your modem, and NOT between the plugin and YAC. Good luck.

zswman, thanks for your response. I'll be sure to add all this to the wiki once I get it straight...

So, are you saying I need to download another part of YAC that doesn't come with MP? Would that be: "YAC for Windows" or is everything included in MP and I'm just missing it?

TIA,
Mark

Yes, you will need to download "YAC for Windows" and install on a computer where you have a modem. The program will act as a YAC SERVER on this computer, sending caller id messages to the computers you specify.
In MediaPortal you enable the YAC plugin, it will act as a YAC LISTENER, presenting all caller id messages it receives.
If you have the modem in your HTPC, you have to install both the SERVER (YAC for Windows) and the LISTENER (MediaPortal plugin) in it.

One other thing: icons/images used in the MP pop-up are stored in MediaPortal\Thumbs\YAC. For a text-message, the image text-message.jpg will be used in the pop-up; if you name a photo file (for example) with a phone number like 8005551212.jpg, that photo will be displayed when that number comes in.

You forgot to mention in wiki that you need to set the ip of your MP machine in listeners on Yak. I guessed it after about 30 mins. I then noticed it IS written at top of this topic by Moullas.

You might also want to add to wiki that if you are sending YAK info over your LAN from a different machine then you will probably need to open TCP port 10629 on your firewall. For Windows Firewall, you run SecurityCentre (Start Menu|Programs|Accessories|System Tools|Security Centre) At bottom launch 'Windows Firewall', then goto second tab called exceptions, hit 'Add Port' and set:-
Name = YAC Port 10629
Port = 10629
TCP = On
Then Hit 'Change Scope' and set it to 'My network (subnet) only' as you don't want the whole internet accessing that port.

I cannot get YAC to ID my phone line anyway, tried 2 diff pc's with 2 diff modems, no joy :( caller id works fine on house phones though. I guess modems dont have caller id, though are pretty modern (one is laptop modem only 1 month old)
