Year filtering, why in decades and not single years? (1 Viewer)

Hi the titles says it all,

I would like to be able to setup a filter with single years i.e 2005, 2006, 2007, really any year that I have a movie for, dynamically. Right now the decade filters 1980's, 1990's, 2000's, is not as specific as as would like it. Also when creating a filter with dynamic values for years it still does the filtering by decade.

Is there something I'm missing? do I need to make a subfilter for 2000's that will do 2000, 2001...2009?

I have made a node called "Years - By years" and made a node below that named "2000" and set that filter for all movies which match the year 2000, but isn't there an automatic way to do this?

:D:confused:

Thanks,

it's been submitted.

I was a little bit confused as to why the year filtering didn't follow the same rules as the other dynamic filters,
as in whatever is in the metadata gets a filter such as genre or director.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!

:D

There are a few fields that are handled differently. The date added filter for example groups by the last week, month, etc rather than a category for every single day. The year grouping by decade was done basically because my collection is of about 300 movies. For a collection this size, one entry per year results in pretty sparsely populated entries. For larger collection this probably makes less sense which i didn't really think about at the time.

And then, different people have different tastes. :p

I scheduled this for 1.1 which hopefully will show up pretty quickly after we release a stable version of 1.0.

you are forgiven!...

I guess i'm not the average when it comes to my media collection. I have far too many!...about 2000 and counting

I used this feature a lot when using the My films built in to Mediaportal.

Great plugin BTW it's maturing nicely...
and I'm sure a lot of blood sweat and tears has gone into it.:D

Please make this full year list optional.

My main collection is 1980+, but I got a few classics, especially cartoon based, that cover almost all the years going back as far as 1910. It sucked in MediaPortal MyVideos to sort on Year and have to go through that giant list with only a single movie entry per year sometimes.

So I immediatly loved the way Moving Pictures groups it on decades.

What I might suggest is an additional year filter option after the quick decade filtering.

    So 1980s -> 1980, 1981, 1982, etc.

Possibly showing how many movies are part of the collection.

    1980 (5)
    1981 (10)
    ....

Just an idea, but please keep the existing decade filtering part of this great plugin :D

It will of course be optional. We will simply add a new dynamic node type. The current decade dynamic filter is not going anywhere.

Possibly showing how many movies are part of the collection.

    1980 (5)
    1981 (10)
This is a good idea, maybe we could integrate this into the facade similar to how MPTV-Series displays the number of watched and unwatched episodes of a series.

It's like you have been talking to my wife (you haven't right? :D)

I was thinking a total number alone would be useful, but a watched/unwatched farcade would indeed be a very nice touch.
