I just bought a HD160XT and I’m fascinated of it.

I tried to get the Zalman remote control work together with the “Media portal”… unfortunately without any success!

Is there any way to get the Zalman remote control work directly with media portal?

Does anybody hasve experienced similar problems, please share it with me!

I tried to contact Zalman directly without any success.

Thanks

    I've got it too.

The built-in fan-control is awful. I wrote my own fan-control which also includes a remote control feature for MediaProtal, and it has a window which duplicates the contents of the main screen and allows to control MP from the small built-in screen.

It's not ready, yet. But, I am going to finish it within the next days.

    Hi Dero,

Your fan-control sounds intersting. Would you mind to send it to me and that I can use/test it, when you have it ready?

Which remote-control/system are you using then?

    Thanks,

Yeah, have you seen the Zalman docs? It says "artificial intelligence fan controller". It's just crap! You can only either set the fans to a fixed speed, or say on/off using a CPU-load or temperature threshold. There is no way to control the speed using the temperature in a smooth way.

But, anyway the case is GREAT!

I sniffed the communication protocoll from the MPlay-HomeCenter to the MPlay-Hardware. It's quite simple using a COM-Port. My little fan control reads the temperature and adjust sthe fan speed using user-controllable ranges.

What's not working yet: The volume-button. I had no time to implement it. Some buttons of the Remote-Control are not working yet. But, I that's only a matter of some days.

PM we with you're E-Mail, I will send you a little demo. Have you got an Athlon X2? Because, I also monitor the CPU-temp.

    Some hints:
There are two temp. sensors in the case. At first, you have to identify the first and the second channel temp. sensor: Use your hand to warm the sensor and look which channel's temp is increasing. The first channel controls the two fans on the rear. The second channel controls the one fan on the bottom and the one fan on the left side.

I put the first sensor between CPU and graphics card and the scond sensor between ODD and HDD.

Here is my e-mail address: st_kunz@swissinfo.org

    I'm using the Intel® CORE 2 DUO E6300 2 x 1,88GHZ FSB 1066 Prozessor. Hope that makes no problem!?

Your demo is welcome. Thanks. :D

One remaining question: According to your posted description, you are using the Zalman remote-control, right? If yes, what are your settings in the media portal remote-control settings exactly? I assume Serial-IR, and what are the other settings then?

    Thanks,
    Stefan

Hm, I don't know how to read the cpu-temp on that processor. I only have the code for AMD Athlon. So this will be N/A for you. If you could provide Delphi-Code to read it...

Since I have not any CPU-fan, I monitor the CPU-temp to switch-on the fans if it gets to high.

I use the Zalman RC. The key-events come thru the same com-port like temperature settings etc. My app simulates key-events that are sent to the active window. So, I don't care what settings are done in MP. Just use the standard MP-keyboard mapping and you're fine.

I wouldn't need the CPU temp. I control the CPU fan via the BIOS.

OK! Sounds great. If you could send me as soon as possible (even not complete) a demo, that would be perfect.

    Dero,

thanks for this fabulous piece of software. Your fan control is genius and makes this great HTPC case much more valuable.

I will give you some more detailed feedback via email.

    I appreciate your work.

    Hi Dero,

this sounds great! I'm still not sure what touch-screen case to buy. I made a list of all such cases I know about here: https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/showthread.php?t=13449

I would be grateful, if you could post the missing information of the HD160XT in this thread. My biggest concern is the use of the touch screen because NVidias and ATIs clone modes do not work with different resolutions. So your "content duplication" sounds really great. How did you do this? Does it allow DirectX acceleration although you "clone" to different resolutions?

I was already thinking of buying the new origenae case (not yet in my thread) which is capable of displaying even 1080p on its 12'' touch screen. Problem is: it's not really cheap...

    thanks for your work,

    Michael

Because MP uses VMR9, I can capture the entire screen and stretch-blit it to the other screen.

It's sometimes a little jerky, e.g. when something is playing fullscreen. But, I am going to improve it. But the display-mirrorer is switching off after a couple of seconds and is switched on again if you touch the screen again.

I'll post my thoughts in the thread you referred to.
