It's possible to make ambilight by oneself(about 20$ for hardware parts) or buy it (about 2400 r. = 85$) It's really cool! Watch the video demonstration on Youtube Look up at lightpack - USB- It has an extension for XBMC I think that ut's possible to make the same extension for Media-Portal
AW: [DIY] Opensource Ambilight for every screen! Looks great! It would be awesome if this would also work with Mediaportal. I love the decent colors and the snappy changes.
Hi, that would be great. If there were an english version, i would build it myself, just too see whats possible. Found a German Translation: http://newstopf.com/visuellen-erlebniss-multiplizieren-mit-lightpack-5-5/ And it seems u dont need a Plugin. The Software sits its in the Background an is analyzing the screen. A Plugin would ne then nice to turn on/off or do some ambilight. Right now i use a momo/atmolight with only 3 channels, so this would be a nice upgrade. http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/mediaportal-plugins-47/new-plugin-atmolight-process-plugin-update-25-05-2010-v1-9-a-75840/ Hm, tried translate.google.com, hard to read, quite funny
This would be really great to have. I think a lot of MP users are willing to buy this cool kit. If only the devs would make their googlecode page in english they would sell a lot more.
There was some similar device in past. It had issues with the performance (video playback dropping frames). If someone is keen enough I would recommend that the dev would experiment with possibilities inside the MP (copying screen content outside MP is probably causing huge performance issues). Just copy the video texture / frame into much smaller texture and pass it back to some plugin to again to be passed to that devices drivers / controlling software.
Here's a friendly warning from XBMC's projectmanager (and big fan of AmbiLight): Do yourself a big favor and stay clear away from Carsten Presser's AtmoLight (all versions) because they are defectively designed. He's designing a new version now but I'd stay clear away from that also, especially since Carsten doesn't offer refunds on his poor designs
An English version of project is available light-pack - USB content-driving ambient lighting system - Google Project Hosting
I just stumbled across this thread in my research on DIY Ambilight I think it is sick to pay for a premium for a high-end Philips TV, when I already have a great Panasonic 50" Plasma, which is better than what Philips can come up with.... soooo.... So far I have found THIS, The LiveLight Project: http://livelightproject.com/ All schemas and software is free and open-source. However, for the ones of us that do not want to mess around with that, you can BUY the stuff :-D .... http://livelightproject.com/shop.php 199€ for LiveLight USB Interface 16-22€ / meter of LED strips It looks like some extra cables and a bit of soldering is necessary to wire up the strips via USB to the LiveLight box. However, it looks like you may create a custom ambilight system for your existing TV for less than 300€!!! :-D Just my 5 cents on this already a bit older thread ;-)
