EPG while idle not quite working on Sky Deutschland (1 Viewer)

Even though I have EPG while idle enabled I often need to watch a channel and wait for the EPG timeout period which is at least one minute to get my EPG update.

What's the use of EPG while idle if it does not actually work for me since I still need to watch a channel for 1mn to get EPG update.

You shouldn't, provided it's correctly configured. In your case it would mean that you need only ONE Sky channel ticked to get the complete EPG for the whole subscription. How many Sky channels are ticked in your selection? Regardless of how many you have ticked, the EPG scanner first needs to get by the respective channel before being able to store data. Depending on the order of channels this can take quite some time (an hour?), giving you the impression that you need to watch the Sky channel first before getting EPG. Watching the channel plus the active option "EPG while timeshifting" would explain your observations.
