I've tried it now, and, as others have already reported, it doesn't always work.

Yesterday I tried a recording, and it created the tsbuffers directory and copied the relevant part of the buffer as it should. Today, after having had the machine suspended it didn't. Also, the success yesterday was after a few unsuccessful attempts. If I remember correctly a restart was what cured it. Attached are log files from today and yesterday.

Even when the copying did work, I had no success with recordingbuffermerger (set up per screenshot). The command is launched, but nothing is moved:

Recording ended (D:\Recordings\One Tree Hill\One Tree Hill - Kanal 5 - 2009-11-01 - 18_05.ts on Kanal 5), launching program (C:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\tools\RecordingBufferMerger.exe "D:\Recordings\One Tree Hill\One Tree Hill - Kanal 5 - 2009-11-01 - 18_05.ts" /MOVE_BUFFERS) ...

Manually executing that command results in:

C:\Windows\system32>"C:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\tools\RecordingBufferMerger.exe" "D:\Recordings\One Tree Hill\One Tree Hill - Kanal 5 - 2009-11-01 - 18_05.ts" /MOVE_BUFFERS
ERROR: this recording has no timeshift buffers

Which seems a bit strange, since:

C:\Windows\system32>dir /s "D:\Recordings\One Tree Hill\"

Volymens serienummer är 7209-61F7

I've done some more testing now. Sometimes the buffer is copied, sometimes not. I've tried to find some logic (certain channels, certain titles, wait a short/long while before pressing record...), but it seems pretty random. I don't know what else I should try.

Is this (great and much wanted) feature still being worked on?

Can't understand how I've missed this thread. I've been hoping for a feature like this for a long time. Once you have a new "version" you want us to test I'll look into this. Maybe in 1.1 RC?

gemx: Thanks a lot for adding this feature. The only reason I'm still using TVE2 is because this was missing in TVE3 :)

esas: Thanks for bringing this to my attention by posting in that other thread too :)

The lack of this kind of feature in MP is probably one of the main reasons I'm still with SageTV. Seemingly such a simple thing that so many exclude (Microsoft Media Center included).

SageTV solves the issue by having no distinction between recorded and timeshifted. If you start to watch live tv, it starts to record the show (like you hit record). Once the show is over (you've watched to the end), or you change channels, it deletes the recording -- unless you hit record, marking the show not to be deleted. There is no separate "timeshift buffer" to worry about saving.

Oh man, can't wait to have this feature back! :)
This the main reason my gf doesn't want us to use MP anymore.
