Hi Crystal Wall,

I also have the Asus (M2NPV-VM) and had the problem with freezing constantly until I came across this thread:

hXXp://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id=20060821033945449&board_id=1&model=M2NPV-VM&page=1&SLanguage=en-us

Seems to be that certain hardware configuration do not play well with each other, the just of it all is to d/l the latest graphics driver from Nvidia and not to use the one that came on the CD.

See if this helps, it certainly fixed my freezing problem.

As for my problem, all I did was uninstall MP from the Add/Remove programs window. Then goto C:program Files and deleted the MP directory including any remaining files in the folder. Did a reset and then installed MP again and it worked.

Restarting the PC after deleting the MP directory fixed it I think. Must of had old junk in there that the new MP didnt like.

Good luck, dial

PS - This was on a MacMini+Bootcamp (onboard intel GPU)

I have the same problem. I can't start Mediaportal (hangs on the initializing DirectX screen) and I can't start the cofniguration program either. When I do a clean install of mediaportal, I can access the first round of configuration, the initial setup. But when I try to enter the configuration again afterwards, it doesn't start and I need to kill the process from the task manager.

This is the last line in the log of either the configuration or the main program:
2007-05-13 13:03:50.390625 [Info.][Config Main]: MAP: using default mappings for DirectInput

Edit: Tried running dxdiag, but it's not able to get diagnostics from DirectInput, so I guess that's where the problem is. Just not sure how to fix it...

Problem solved...

In my case, the problem was simply that I had moved the wireless keyboard/mouse receiver USB unit to a different USB port. For some strange reason, this caused all the above mentioned problems.

Moving it back to the original port solved all the problems, and now it's working fine again.

Same issue here... I've reinstalled .NET Framework, Mediaportal, Direct X, and my ATI catalyst drivers.

How can I debug this?

Tried 2.1 just for giggles and it does the same thing... Maybe I am not setting something correctly?

Same problem maybe a fix

I have to Asus MB systems with VIA chipsets. Both of these systems do the same thing. I reinstalled XP three times last night and have fixed the problem on both systems. I know need someone else to also test.
what I did
1. Install windows XP with service pack 2.
2. Install sound and graphics drivers.
3. Turn on automatic updates. Allow windows to auto install first 2 updates.
4. Reboot. Install Net framework 2. install MP 0.2.2 and latest SVN.
5. Run media portal it works at this point for me.

If it wont work for you at this point then the rest is no good for you. dont continue.

6. Allow windows to download the next 76 or so updates. But do not express install. each time I did this MP no longer works.

7. unselect all update .Install all security updates in groups of ten, reboot ater each ten, (do not tick dont remind me again) and the do step 7 over again until all security updates are installed.

8. After each ten I tested MP and it still worked.

9. Next unselect all updates and install the remaining one at time rebooting when asked.

10. Once again I check MP on every reboot. and it still worked.

11. After all updates were installed MP still worked and still is after installing all my other software on both systems.

I tried this on both systems and it worked. I tried them all at once many times and MP has always frozen on these two systems. MY ASUS Nforce board has no problems only the two VIA systems.

This takes about 30 minutes but hey if it works you only have to do it once!!

Let me know how you go if you try, would be interesting to know if it is only VIA systems too??
