2 Needed Features ( for large databases ) (1 Viewer)

My Movie Database is too large. I spend a lot of time scrolling down the list for a possible movies to watch. ( so fecking long_)

what i need is two options within Moving pictures

1) Random selection for overall movies or random based on genre
2) IMDB rating ( i user "therenamer.com" to rename my movies and add imdb rating to folder name ) , but i am sure you can come up with option within plugin. I woudl also like to see ramdom based on general rating like 7 or 8 or 9. etc

These fearures never move unless there is support form users, so
+1 for Random
+2 for IMDB Rating
+3 for both

Forgive me if the features are already there. i just cant find them

You can use the existing filters to get selections of movies based on what you want.

For example I got a custom category myself called "Mega Blockbusters" which simply are any movie that has gotten over 1 million user votes. This filters a giant collection down to a few nice movies. You can do the same with rating, or a combination even.

The ratings on my system are based on IMDb+ scraper of course, which by default uses a random rating by pooling the user votes from imdb.com, rottentomatoes.com and other sources for a well balanced average rating. This means that a movie such as "The Shawshank Redemption" has almost 2 million votes for me. If you just use imdb.com or another site as your voting/rating source then you can simply adjust your filters accordingly.

The category listing in configuration can also be adjusted to a different sort order so you get more of a random result upon entry.

Maybe what you are asking is if you can create a custom category and limit number of movies displayed to X, and if X<#movies in category, then random ones are displayed.

A good way to find a movie to watch is look up a movie you like on IMDB, and it suggests 6 other similar movies. It would be cool if this function could be incorporated into moving pictures.

If you are using trakt, then I think it can suggest movies for you to watch.

You can indeed use Trakt plugin for that already, it ties into MovingPictures and can be found under hidden menu in most skins. And then simply use 'Trending Movies' or 'Recommended Movies', where the latter looks at your existing movie collection preference and locates movies that would fit along that you do not yet have.

yup was about to mention trakt it as well, i've rated all my movies etc, but havn't used it within moving pictures yet to suggest anything.

i think there is still an argument for consideration of using imdb suggestion because

trakt - suggests movies based on entire collection
imdb - can suggest movies based on an individual movie

however trakt does have the ability to recommend similar movies based on a single movie, so this could be incorporated as well instead of imdb suggestion. I havn't directly compared them (imdb vs trakt) to see which is better at suggesting movies based on a single movie.

edit: i just realised there is an option already to see similar movies via the trakt plugin, but you can't go directly from a highlighted movie in moving pictures to similar movies in trakt.

I would also like it to suggest other similar movies, with an option to show similar movies that are (are not, or both) already in my collection.

Another option is to use the OnlineVideos plugin, and not prefiltered via the 'trailers' button, but unfiltered via "IMDb movie trailers", which then also has some simelair/recommended/etc movie options and that is based on the IMDb recommendation list.
