Hi I am completely new to Media Portal and could really do with some help.

I mainly want to use the software for archiving TV. I do lots of this -40-50 hours a week- and need to set my system up right.

There are three issues I could really do with help with:

1. Is there a way of setting up media portal to wake up my computer from sleep mode to record programmes. At the moment I have set my computer running Windows 7 64 to sleep after being inactive for 15 mins. Media Portal doesn't appear to wake up my PC up at the moment.

2. Can you select Media Portal to record in formats other than .ts? Because I record so much TV it quickly fills up my hard drives and absolute picture quality is not my central concern. The media center software that came with my Pinnacle card is pretty poor but it does offer the opportunity to record TV straight into MP4 or DivX formats. Does Media Portal offer this function? Otherwise I will have to do lots of format conversions each week.

3. Does Media Portal offer the ability to remote schedule recording via the web?

Sorry if these questions seem rather stupid but I am not terribly technical and am struggling with the software at the moment.

Thanks

Mike

    Hi Mike,

I don;t hve much time to reply at the moment...

But to wake up the PC for recordings, you will want to configure the powerscheduler plugin (on both the TVServer and the Mepo client). I would suggest you look at the enhanced powerscheduler++ plugin (that will need downloading) - this has an option to wake the PC for various events

MePo only supports TS format for recording TV, but if you look at MCEBuddy (a third party program you will need to download), I believe this allows you to automatically convert TS to a smaller format (like AVI) - I don't use this program so can't really comment.

MePo does not natively offer a web interface, but there are several options (MPWebservices, ForTheRecord, or iPimp).

Should hopefully point in the right directions....

    Dear jay

Thanks very much for the advice.

Unfortunately I seem to be having some problems installing PowerScheduler++

I am getting series of error messages after installation

Access to the path 'C:programData\Team\MediaPortal\Installer\V2\9b9bc24e-69ca-4abc-8810-f8f95bd4bbe6\1.2.0.10\9b9bc24e-69ca-4abc-8810-f8f95bd4bbe6.mpe2' is denied

and then when I click I get a series of error messages starting with:

    at System.IO_Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode String maybeFullPath)

The PowerScheduler appears to have installed on the TV-Server where it can be configured but it doesn't appeared to have installed on the client plugin config.

Any ideas what I can do to sort this out.

    Cheers

    Mike
