4 gb limit on xp pro 32 bits (1 Viewer)

Hello, i am considering put 4 gb of ram in my system and installing xp pro and then mediaportal.
I know that xp doesnt recognize more than 3 gb of ram.
I would like to know if this affects the dual channel, and the system performance.
Or should i put only 2 gb of ram?

Total waste, 2gb is more than enough to run video editing software, let alone MP, you need a matched pair 2x1gb to keep dual channel features.

i am planning to play and encode bluray using mediaslayer plugin, while im still watching a movie, so i consider the 4 gb of ram in my system.

Processor is more important in this case, faster the better.

have to agree with PD here that any more that 2gb on a 32bit OS is pointless. Also you may have got the wrong end of the stick on the 3GB - a subject that causes great confusion.

Basiclly the /3GB switch, which is what you are talking about, changes the way the 4GB virtual address space is split up. Instead of splitting it as 2GB of user mode virtual address space and 2GB of kernel mode virtual address space, the split is 3GB of user mode virtual address space and 1GB of kernel mode virtual address space, thats all.

Using the /3GB wont have any effect on most programs, they need the Large Address Space Aware flag set or windows won't actually give you the full 3GB space.....

Best to spend you money of the fastest 2gb of ram you can afford, memory and disk IO are the real bottle necks these days for most tasks.
