I've downloaded some stunning HD vids from the Quicktime website (The BBC Japan one is excellent),
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/guide/hd/
However although they play fine in WinXP with Quicktime Alternative (Through Media Player classic) in MP they stutter when there's a lot of action happening.
Can anyone suggest a way to fix this?

These are H.264 videos.
Do I need a faster PC to run them properly (My screen res is running at 1360x768)?
What needs to be faster?
The processor?

First check I'd make is can you play them ok via windows media player with no juddering. Suppose it might just be that the extra overhead of having MP running is pushing your system over the limit.

With my old A64 3000+ (1.8) and using coreavc/qtalternative it would vary between 50%-100% processor usage depending on the bitrate/action etc. Ended up getting a cheap 3800+ (2.4), and I have next to no problems with now.

Here's how I got mine working via Windows Media Player, just to check.

    I got a simple answer:

    Install Quicktime 7.01
    Install Quicktime ALternative

Now, QT alternative warns that QT is installed, continue, and install ONLY the Directshow filter for QT movies.

And voila, I can view .mov in Media Portal, HD 720p files. I got a AMD 3200+ and a 720P gives me a 75% cpu load

Thanks for the info. Tried that and there is an improvement, but I guess I need a faster processor (My AthlonXP 2000 isn't fast enough) as I'm running at 100% for the busier scenes.

Right I've just put in an AthlonXP 2500 and changed the memory from 2x512MB of 266MHz to 2x512MB of 333MHz. It now runs almost perfectly. Yay. Don't know why I didn't swap that stuff over before. Thanks for the info.
