i dunno if this has already been discussed on this board, but the main drawback for case sizes of htpcs is the pci cards and the power supply, well ignoring the pci card (shich can be mounted on their side) i was looking at my ps2 and remembered how sony lost so much size in the new one by taking the psu out of the case.

Then i remembered my old Amiga A500+ that had an external psu, i know there are many cables coming out of a typical psu, but surely they can be wrapped in one outer cable until they enter the case. and we could have external psus in their own cooled cases hidden away somewhere.

anyhoo what do you think?

There are ready made DC-DC converters that provide the voltages needed in a PC environment using a notebook-like PSU.

Bundles up to 150W can be found here:

I am powering an mini-itx based desktop with a 60W unit and am very satisfied. You will get much more space in the case giving room for other extensions or just a smaller case.
