I can't get AC3 out of the SPDIF from my Soundcard when viewing a DVD. I read all threads in this forum, describing how to achieve that, but none of this worked. So I see two possibilities: 1.) I*m too stupid or 2.) The Terratec soundcard can only give Stereo out of the SPDIF.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Rainer.

    Opt. 1.) !!!!

kidding..... 2.) ... from what I found, optical 5.1 w/direct sound is not possible (WaveOut is ok for 5.1)

I also have a Terratec soundcard and the only way I can get it to work is to choose default waveout device as audio renderer. I've had som trouble with this setting earlier as it woudn't have any effect. I used graphedit to verify what accually was going on. The cure then was to make the setting within MP and not in MP setup. I don't know if that was MPs fault or mine. With a fresh installation of XP and MP 0.2.1.0 it's working great.

I have also experimented with some registry settings that will force all audio to go via wave out or direct sound which in turn will render the settings for audio renderer in MP useless. Not so good, but it works.

I get best results with Cyberlink Audio decoder (PowerDVD) but I have also got the spdif passthrough working with other codecs as well. You need to set the Speaker Environment to "spdif out" in MP setup, but I'll guess you knew that.

Anyway, can you get spdif passthrough with something other than DVD, or is this the only thing you tried so far?

We'll get it to work, don't worry!

    Hi,

an alternative approach is to use reclock, tell it too use waveout on all the devices and set it as defeult renderer and force itself to be the preferred direct sound device.

    Cheers

    Hi guys,

First of all, I'd like to wish to all of you a Happy New Year... :D

I have the exact same problem turning to the SPDIF out...

    Here is my config:
    - Sound Card: Terratec Aureon 5.1
    - Sound out using optical cable to amplifier...
    - TV card: Terratec Cynergy T²
    - latest realease of MP. Latest SVN as well :)

If have the same problem that you when playing a DVD which is that I can not get SPDIF out sound. I can only have stereo sound.

I use Dscaler for the sound. When I turn on all the SPDIF options, I have no sound. When I disable them, I got the sound, but in stereo
It does not change anything if I use the wave out trick...

I have the same issue for TV. It works perfectlly in stereo, but I can't get it in 5.1 for channels that have AC3 broadcasts :(

For the TV, it is not a big problem, but for the DVDs, it is...

Could anyone give me a hand on this?

Note: Power DVD can play using SPDIF...

    Hi,

Install the ffdshow Codec and set the AC3 there to SPDIF. Then change the audio codec in MP to ffdshow and set the audio renderer to WaveOut. That should do.

    HTH, Rainer.

Well, I'm affraid, but it still does not work. When I do that, I have no sound coming out :(

the strange thing is that it used to work with MP 2.1 using DScaler. But I can't get it work again with MP 2.2

I even tryed to use a clean install of Windows with only MP, DScaler and FFDShow, but I have the exact same problem... No sound if I turn AC3 to SPDIF...

I've got the lmatest drivers and stuf... But it still does not change anything...

Do you know any applicaytion to try FFDShow in AC3 without using MP? So that I could define wither the problem copmes from MP or my sound card..

    Hi Ludo,

could you please try to set the audio engine in "My Music" from BASS to DirectShow?
    Then test it again.

    Could be a known problem...

    Perfect, that fixed it :)
It now works perfectly with either DScaler and FFDShow...
When I put it back, it still does not work. So the problem really comes from here...

Thanks very much for your help....

    And Happy New Year ;-)
