Hi all,

I am using the latest version of Media Portal 1.0.0.0. It is working great except for files with audio AC3. When I play those files in Media Portal, it seems there is no voice but I can hear the music and the different effects in the film.

It is strange because everything is working correctly when I play the file in Media Player.

I am using in the configuration of the video player for the audio: MPA. I have a a logitech system 5.1 attached via fibre to my PC.

Many thanks for your help,

John.

Easy download the AC3 filter, its much better, or select another audio codec in config if already installed, MPV\MPA are not the best codecs.

Or download the Vista Codec Pack (works with xp), This will give you miles more choices, like FFDShow for Audio, just make sure in it's config you change MP1\MP2 to use the libavcodec, this also give you a choice of using dxva codecs.

Of course if the second choice, uninstall any other codecs first.

I had the same symptom a while ago. My problem was that my center speaker was dead, on all films I tried this resulted in music, effects etc to be heard but the voices were absent or could perhaps be heard very faintly in some films.

Make sure that all the sound filters you are using in MP is setup correctly i.e. 5.1 or 3+2+LFE. If something is set to 2 front + 2 back + LFE, perhaps the center channel is simpy not being played etc.

I am having something of the same problem although it is happening during audio playback as well. As if two different decoders are working against eachother. I have checked my settings and set everything up in FFdshow along with media portal. I have ffdshow handeling the mpeg 1/2 decodeing and h.264 is being controlled by my cyberlink PDVD8 decoder, and ffdshow is decodeing the audio. Those are the setting I have for MP in the configuration, and I have set my outputs to 3+0+2 (5.1 speaker setup). I output all my audio via analog through my HDA X-plosion 7.1 card to my amplifier. Could there be anything I have left out? The music and videos play fine outside of MP, as in when I listen to them though MPC, yet something is getting messed up along the way to MP and having those same files played back inside MP.

I have done that, I beleive the latest revision is 2570 something, and I just installed it yesterday along with setting mp1/2 to libavcodec. Should I try restarting my computer after doing all of this? I feel there are settings under the "directshow filters" section of MP that I am missing somehow...

Well above whats been said, make sure default directsound device is selected as audio renderer.

If i remember correctly, you need spdif enabled, and all sound when MP is running is controlled by the receiver, not windows.

I do not have MP setup to run on spdif because my receiver does not support it, so I am useing the 5.1 channel inputs on my receiver and the 5.1 channel outputs from my sound card.

I think that it has something to do with the ac3filter, and MP decodeing AC3 via another codec that just isn't set up correctly, and I need to turn off the MP audio decoder so I can just use AC3Filter isntead.

May I ask somethinmg similar related:

I have the problem that for videos the audio is routed via SPDIF just fine, but playing music/radio-streams with the MP internal Bass player I have it only on the analog output.
So far I didn't discovered a way to route the audio stream to SPDIF.

enabling in ffdshow a postprocessing on all formats with output on SPDIF had also no effect.

    Cheers

P.S. found a feasible but not very satisfying solution to my question: See https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/newcomers-forum-240/audio-playback-problems-51887/#post355805
