It might be useful for a busy parent to see what their children are doing with the HTPC.

It would be nice if Media Portal had some way of logging all files accessed by the user. A text log would be adequate. Something like this:

12/20/2004 13:00:34 - jsmith - Accessed Weather Information.
12/20/2004 13:01:34 - jsmith - Accessed video file "c:\movies\movie1.avi"
12/20/2004 13:05:34 - jsmith - Accessed music file "c:\music\music1.mp3"

so on and so forth.

Who else thinks that this might be usefull?

thanks for a great HTPC application.

Well essentially this is what the mediaportal.log file does. However it does contain a lot more other stuff as well so its not as clear as the example you gave.

See the log\mediaportal.log file in your mediaportal folder.

Hey Sam...

Silly question.. I looked at the log file a few days ago and it looked like it only kept a hundred or so lines. I'm guessing that's only about 20 minutes worth of log. If that's the case, the log file is kind of useless for the purpose stated above. Is the log size adjustable?

Cheers!

My sugestion is a security tool with a key to watch non-children tv would be better.

All DVB-channels send there programs age-restricted - so you could decode or encode it, or not?

So, you can say...

0-6 they can watch the muppets
6-12 they can watch the space rangers
12-18 they can watch something else like Gina Wild

Not sure, I haven't really looked at the log file after long sessions. I'm not sure why it would though as its not as if your hd is going to be filled with log messages...

You're right.. it keeps the log for the session. Haven't seen how long it can get. I think for the feature made in this thread, they would want to look at more than one session. And maybe something in plain language. The current log is a good start but I don't think it really provides sufficient audting information to a non-techie for more than 1 session.

For now I'd say the session log is fine but maybe long term if the feature is requested a lot (probably won't) then maybe consider beefing it up.

Ciao!
