Excuse my ignorance. I've spent a few hours researching IRSS, HIP, etc and still don't have a good feel for whether I can do what I want, how to do it, or what app to use. I think IRSS is my best bet if it's possible but please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm happily using my mce remote with mce (not mediaportal), but I would like to add some non-mce commands to my remote. I use a "JP1" style universal remote which means I could have it send virtually any IR signal, be it an mce command or a command from virtually any consumer device remote. So I don't necessarily want to repurpose any mce commands, but if that's the easiest way to do what I want, I can live with that (don't need the mce volume/mute buttons for instance), or if my mce ir receiver and IRSS can handle commands from some random consumer device remote, I could approach it that way.

FWIW, I want to add a "close window" button and perhaps even a "reboot" button for those instances where mce and/or windows is in some strange state.

Is this possible? Is IRSS the right tool for the job? If so, can someone point me to some instructions that relate to what I want to do? I certainly haven't been able to figure it out so far.

    Hi

you cant transmit any IR Code you want to the IR Receiver. It depends on which Codes he supports.
But you have the ability to setup a second mapping for your Remote Control that works like the "shift" key. I have an Harmony One as MCE and mapped the "clear" Button for changing the Remote Control Mapping. For the tasks i want to execute i wrote small macro files that automaticly changes the mapping back to default after the macro has been executed.

One important thing I forgot to mention: My htpc is win7 64 bit, so I don't have the option of having IRSS handle the mce functionality, right? And therefore I can't do the kind of thing you're talking about, right?

That's why I asked about having it respond to non-mce ir commands. I'm guessing I can't repurpose the mce commands since I'm using win7 64. However, whichever method works, I have not been able to figure out how to actually do it, so if I could get a little guidance, it would be very helpful and much appreciated.

uhm i dont think that the x64 should prevent you from using the MCE Receiver and Remote but i never had a x64 system with IRSS...only standard iMon Software with ma Harmony as MCE (working with Windows Media Center).
Maybe some other user can say something about it?

From what I've gathered in order to prevent mce from capturing the ir commands you either have to install a special driver for the ir receiver (which is only 32 bit compatible) or you have to edit the registry. That's what I was getting at there. And if the only way to get it working in x64 is through the registry, that's fine, but I still couldn't figure out how to get IRSS to recognize button presses on my mce remote, much less configure it to control mce and other stuff.

I've been using the iMon software too (although mostly I'm just using it to control the LCD). Is it possible to do any of this stuff in iMon? If so, I'd be very curious to know in more detail how you accomplished it.

    Thanks!
