Advance a single frame? (1 Viewer)

Is there any way to advance a single frame in video and/or TV?
Very often (in particular during sports), I would like a check frame by frame where the ball/player/car was exactly. But I did not find a way yet to achieve this in MP.

If it does not exist yet:
In order to save buttons on the remote, this could be implemented using the fastforward and rewind-buttons in pause-mode. During normal playback, these buttons will do fastforward or rewind. But when you enter the pause-mode, these buttons will only skip one frame forward or backward.

This would be a great feature, something I have long missed being able to do. This has been asked about in the past - Slow Motion, Frame by Frame - and it seems to be something a lot of people would like; unfortunately, it doesn't seem as if it's gonna happen
