My TV: Timeshift/Record Function
When you are using timeshifting you should be able to start to record from a previous point, eg. I turn on the tv and start watching coverage of a music festival, I watch for half an hour and then a band I do not know starts to play, after another half hour I think 'I really like this band' I then click the record button and it could ask 'record from now' or 'record from start',
If I chose 'record from start' it stores the last hour of the program (based on epg info) and continues until the program finishes.
It could also allow me (before I start to record) to rewind to when the band started playing, press record, chose 'record from now' and continue until the end of the program or until I ask it to stop recording.
What would be even better is if I could be watching live (with timeshifting) tv, rewind to when the band I liked started playing, press record, then fast forward back to the point I was watching before so in effect saving only the act I liked. (see below)
My TV: Video Edit.
I let MP record the whole 3 hour broadcast of a music festivel (for example, could be a lecture or the news)
I then watch the program back, when I get to a band I like I can use the righ-click menu to chose 'cropped recording'.
The fwd/back keys then can be used to skip frames until I get to the right point for the start of the recording I then press Rec and it starts to play the previous recording, I can either watch through or use fastfwd/rewind until the band finishes when I stop the recording. It could be named 'edit1 of *name of original recording*' or I could rename it, ie. ' 'The Who Live'.
I can then get the option to save either in the recorded tv folder (with the normal recordings) or in 'My Videos' where I could put it in the 'Music Videos' Folder. The first frame could be used as the preview icon.
A combine function would also be good, ie the band plays, I crop the recording and it's saved as 'edit 1' they then have a brake during which I get some chat and commercials, When they start playing again I crop and record and get 'Edit 2' saved on the hard drive,
A simple right click on edit1 then another on edit2 brings up 'combine?' I can then chose which to add onto the end ie. add edit 2 onto the end of edit1 and simply create my own live music video!
My Music:
My partner has a cd player in her car which will play CDRW's,
It would be nice for her to be able to go through the music in MP and either right click on an album and chose 'send to cd' or right click on indvidual tracks and click 'add to cd' until she has the 70mins worth.
MP could then burn them onto the CDRW.
There could also be a option in setup to 'burn all track as cd audio format'.
The car player can only play 'normal' cd audio but I know many players can handle mp3 files directly from a cd. If you could tell MP how you would like to burn them it could convert the files for you.
Two extensions on the above:
1, When a empty cd (or a CDRW that MP reconises as having made itself) is inserted into the drive MP could ask 'Fill this disk with random music'. Does as it says, fills the cd with a random selection, either from your most played, playlists or whole collection.
2: If you right click on an album and chose 'burn to cd' (and you have a lightscribe drive in the system) it could check if a lightscribe disk is inserted and if it is ask 'use album art for disk label?' The disk could then have a picture burnt onto it, ie. the folder.jpeg from that album or the cd picture itself if stored.

When I buy a new cd or dvd 99% of the time I take it into my office and rip it to the hard drive using my desktop computer, I then download the cover art from the internet etc.
The htpc is connect to the same network as the desktop so it it simple enough to rip the cd/dvd to the shared docs folder and then copy it onto the media pc.
I have my ripping program set up to create a folder of Artist/Album then the Track title is the file name.
It would be nice (but not really important) to have a search function in MP to 'find' these ripped albums and dvd's on the network, add them to it's database and even (if it is the server not a client) cut and paste the ripped stuff onto its own hard drive.
I suppose I could just find a way of syncronising folders so that anything that is saved into say the 'ripped cd's' folder on my laptop is aoutmatically check for every so often and copied into the correct media folder on the htpc
General:
Some sort of basic on-screen keyboard to edit file names.
For example I might record the local news to the recorded tv folder.
Rather than have the file name as 'West News Tonight' I might like to change it to 'Mum's House On TV!'
Same goes for music, usually where there is a spelling error on the file name.
Not sure if anybody else would find anything like this usefull (or if any of it is allready part of MP) but let me know
